Printing from Panther

I've posted before that I was unable to print from Panther 10.3.2 and barely able to print from 10.3.3

This has nothing to do with Calamus - Calamus prints as well or as badly as any other program - This is a problem with Panther.

Drivers for printers that are native to Panther seem to have no problems - It's the printers that are older and where the users must use GIMP print, that arean't working at all, or not too well.

The people who put out GIMP have come up with a fix - GIMP now prints faster then native drivers and it's quite stable.

This fix, the UsbTB, is an add on to the existing line of GIMP printers. In other words you still use the GIMP Print driver and simply add this on.

In my case, this was especially important, my Epson 3000 was more or less useless to me in OS 10.3xx - It now works perfectly. Even those who printers worked ok under GIMP will notice a defintie speed increase.

Information and the drivers can be gotten here:

Hi David,

Thank you for this great developments. In the next months or so I plan to buy an Epson SP4000 and upgrade to G5/Panther and the printing problems kind of stood in the way.

By the way, can you demonstrate this at ADAT 18, in november? ;-)

Hi Paul

Are you raising the money for my air fare? smiling smiley

Epson does have a driver that works with OSx and Panther. I never had a problem using it. But, it won't print Stochastically Screened images, which the GIMP driver will.

Also GIMP supports many abandoned printers

Finally, once I added on this little addendum to the GIMP driver suddenly everything became much more stable.
