OSX raster printing problem

OSX raster printing problem

Hi,

When I try print a document rasterised "B/W screened" by calamus via MacprintX, the pictures raster gets (partially) distorted.
Experimenting I found a way to test the problem and I am now sure it has to do with either OSX 10.2 or the printer driver. On the problematic areas it seems like the printer is interpretting it as greyscale and starts making its own raster (compression?).
If I print to PDF, zoom it up and examine, the raster is OK.

I have made a testpicture with Calamus (600dpi).
Could any of you download the picture, print it (on a 600 or 1200dpi printer on OSX). And see if it gets right?
It is found here

If I open it with Photoshop elements an print in OSX the raster gets distorted.
If I do the same thing in OS9 it gets perfect, smooth raster, without any extra pattern.

The printer is OKIpage 14ex.

Thank you for any help.
Hoping it is the printer driver and not OSX in itself!

After setting the contrast in the OKI printerdriver to 100%, the raster gets through (nearly) unaltered!
At a first glance it looks perfect, but when looking carefully there are areas where the raster looks different, slightly distorted (fx very bright areas can get a stripe of no raster dots at all).

It is clear that either OSX or the printerdriver generates non perfectly black (grey) in the raster or that the printer interprets the raster as grey.

If I set the OKI printerdriver to print to pdf and check that pdf in photoshop it consists only of perfectly black dots on a perfectly white background as it seems.

Hi Roger

Have you tried GIMP Print yet? DO they have a driver for that printer?

Hi Dave,

No, I have't had time to try GimpPrint out yet.
The Gimpprint HP4 printer is supposed to work on my OKI...
