I need to write 1 1/2 in a correct way. Normally I would use alt + 171 to get ½ but this seems not to work.
alt + 171 is set to left double quotation mark set by the Key bindings editor.
Is there a way around this?
Most CFN fonts don't support the ½ character on slot 171, but many TTF fonts do. So you have various ways to solve this issue:
You can remove the key binding to [alt] from the Special Keys Bindings dialog. That would not create the ½ character automatically, but it removes the basic macro for [alt].
You may want to copy and adjust the copy of the relevant CODEPAGE file (e.g. C:\Calamus\SL2015en\System\CODEPAGE\SL_WEST.CCT) in an ASCII editor by changing this line: 0xAB, quotedblleft, 0x201C, 0xD2 # 171 201C LEFT DOUBLE QUOTATION MARK to e.g. 0xAB, onehalf, 0x00BD, NIL # 171 0189 VULGAR FRACTION ONE HALF Then use the new Codepage when loading TTFs and hopefully get the ½ character imported to ASCII slot 171.
Or you can simply type [/] in the text frame and adjust things using (new defined and named) text styles.
