Calamus SL 98 on the Atari

Calamus SL 98 on the Atari

For the first time in years, I have a small project that is perfect for a page layout program.

Years ago, I used Calamus on the Atari for a lot of projects, starting with 1.09. And I have SL 98 currently running on a Hades 060 clone, although the computer is rarely turned on. disappointed smiley

In those days, I really didn't need much in the way of export options, but for this new project, the default options in SL 98 doesn't meet my needs.

I was wondering if there any other export options for SL 98 before putting the effort in to searching for something that would do this one project. And if those options were still available. PDF would be the ideal solution.

I installed the demo version of Calamus for my Mac, but the 2 page limitation won't let me do the project. A year and a half ago, I tested the Windows Lite version for a friend, but since I'm now on day 444 of the 30 test period, that idea won't work. grinning smiley

Rather than reinstall the Windows demo again, I thought I'd see if I could make SL 98 somewhat updated to do the project. I know the software is more than adequate, it's getting the resulting file into an updated file format that I need.

If I still owned a printer for the Hades, it wouldn't be a problem.

Are there any options available to solve this problem?

I've discovered I've forgotten how to use the program!!!!!! LOL

Good thing I've got the manuals, for those reading this who remember them. How I miss good manuals for software. sad smiley

Last night, a dormant brain cell came to life, and I remembered the Bridge module, which I do own version 2.0. I never used it, as I never had a need for Postscript or PDF files.

Now to relearn the basics, and then see what the 2.0 version of Bridge will do for me. I don't need anything fancy.

Hi Ken.

You may want to know that iCalamus (for Mac OS X) and Calamus SL are two different siblings, not sharing a single line of code.

Did you already try the current Calamus LE 2015 for Windows?

You may also want to know that you can upgrade from your old LE 2000 or SL 1995 to the current SL 2015 for just about 90 USD.

Hi, Ulf,

I didn't expect the code to be the same, but I did think the overall way the programs worked would be similar enough I could easily figure it out. Especially since the project is not technically hard. But the 2 page limit in the demo put an end to using iCalamus.

I don't think so. I think I had the earlier demo version installed under Vista. It wouldn't run, but with help from you we got it to work.

It was 440+ days over the 30 day trial limit when I went to try my project. LOL I had installed it just to help a friend find a page layout program for her uses. Unfortunately, another vendor was selling off old versions of their software for just $25 USD, and that's what she bought. That program does more than she needs and she finds it simple and fun to use. She had been using Open Office, which was definitely not stable for her.

Since I only have the one project, and I see no page layout projects in the future, I can't justify buying any page layout program. smiling smiley But I haven't had the time to even get started on the project. It's a personal project, not being done for any payment from someone. So I'll just get the books out for SL 98 and read. winking smiley
