Selecting and moving frames

Selecting and moving frames

Hi,

I have just installed the new Calipso 3 - PDF-import and imported a document of 34 pages. Works fine. But now I have some questions.

I want to select ALL frames that contain TEXT and move them to ANOTHER LAYER. This can of course be done page by page but it is a big work and it is easy that small frames get forgotten. Is there any module that can help me with this work? Completely or partially.

Hi,

Because all text is converted to vector-frames, I don't think it can be done easily. Calamus will not know what was text and what was vector-frame before you imported it.
You can, however, select the text-import off, import everything, and then select text import on and vector and bitmapframes off and import the whole PDF again. But then you will have two documents instead of two layers...

Hi again,

And then, with the two documents open, you can select all the former textframes of one document, group them and copy this to the newly made 'text'-layer of the other document, then go to the next page and repeat the process. This is easily put into a macro. In this case you will 'only' have to press a key for 34 times. Or 17, if you make a longer macro. Or less, if you combine two similar macros.
I make this kind of macros sometimes when copying advertisements from the last magazine of a customer to the new one.
With the 'Wopper' module you can easily put two documents next to one another on the screen.

Success,

After some thinking I came to the same conclusion that it would not be possible for Calamus to know which frames are text frames, since everything is vectorised. However, another option is actually to let the text/vector frames be, and instead select ALL bitmap frames. This can easily be done and then in one go I copy them and put them in a new image-layer.

The question then is: Can the Selector module select all bitmap frames and then copy them ALL even though they are on different pages?

Another question is: Does Selector work in all layers on only in the active layer?

Hi Jonas,

There doesn't seem to be such a function. Maybe it vcn be programmed into a Page-Pro module with more functions for layers.

In this case, I would suggest a macro: with all the bitmap frames selected, you can go to page 1, group them (copying to the clipboard is just one frame at the time) move it to the clipboard, select the other layer, paste the grouped frame, ungroup it, go to the next page and go to the original layer. If you record a macro doing this on 3 pages, you will need only say 20 keystrokes for a 60 page document. And you can do a number of keystrokes fast, Calamus will remember them and execute these macros.

I just checked this, and in this case a bitmap-frame on the non-active layer was selected. So here the answer here is yes.

Best wishes,
