Double click on words

Double click on words

In layout mode (not Eddie) and I double click on a word it is marked as a block. Very good. But if the word is acompanied by a , . ( ) or other special character, the word PLUS the character is marked. For me this is very unpractical beccause most of the time when I double click on a word I only want to mark the word. Is this something deliberate or just a coincidence that can be changed?

You can define this in Eddie yourself.

Call the dialog "Define word hyphens" and e.g. mark the colon, dot, and other special characters.

Afterwards, they will no longer be accepted as part of a word.

Don't forget to save the Eddie settings. ;-)

Yes, but thoose settings only have effect in Eddie - not in the layout window. For instance, at the momdent I am making an index list. This means that I am marking a lot of words and phrases in the layout window. It would save a lot of time if I could only double click. Now I have to mark a lot of the single words bra dragging the block marking, because TAB, . () and other characters are included.

You are right, this behaviour can only be controlled within Eddie.

Let me suggest an idea why this was no planned feature for the "layout text edit mode": It is bad typographical style to assign e.g. bold text style to words without their according interpunction signs. This bad style is seen very often in the internet.

Bad example:
I really hate bad programs!

Good example:
I really hate bad programs!

As most of the time, there is a thought behind the behavour of Calamus! I have one or two suggestions for improvement:

1) Double click on a word marks the word as a block as is today. THREE clicks on a word, marks ONLY the word without other characters (for index entries etc.)

2) Intelligent block management á la Papyrus. In Papyrus I mark a word as a block (ONLY the word). If I erase the block Papyrus autoaticly also erases ONE space, to avoid double spaces.

Hi Jonas.

Calamus has defined treatments for double, triple, quadruple and quintuple clicks in text frames already. ;-)

Please take a look at FIX_KEYS.CDK.
