PostNet Code

PostNet Code

Hello,

I want to setup Calamus so that it will print out envelopes.
I was wondering if Calamus also does the postnet code that makes it easier for the post office to mail letters? I am talking about converting a zip code like 48644-9991 to what looks like a bar code that usually appears on the bottom left of an envelope.

Hi Ed.

I wonder how Calamus should generate this "postnet" code?

We do not have any knowledge of how this code "works".
Is it identical for America as well as for Germany?
What about Tibet? ;-)

And I guess you will not find the phosphorescing color which is used by the post print terminals.

Hi,

Here in The Netherlands, the main postcompany offers a small free application for Dutch mail that adds a field with the barcode to a database (in text), plus the TTF-barcode font for it. With Calamus it is easy to make a mailing like this. Perhaps your postcompany can offer an application like this too?

Well there is an envelope program for the Atari computers called Gemvelope that offers this option. But Gemvelope is old and often crashes by Hades usually after printing only 1 envelope. I was thinking maybe the bardcode module would do this, but maybe there is another way...

If you could provide us with the according barcode informations, we would be able and create another barcode family for the Calamus barcode module.

Perhaps the font for the barcode is the same with you as it is with me. Not illogical, isn't it? In that case, I could mail to you 'my' font, so you can apply it to the code with you. Here it is called KIX.

Ulf I am not sure what these "according barcode informations" are. Explain and I will look into it.

I may have found a temporary solution. There is a website that has an online barcode generator that has a POSTNET option. The resulting code comes up in JPG format and from there I could just import that into Calamus.

Hi Ed.

The POSTNET barcodes surely have a format definition. But we do not know this. If you could provide me with informations, I would like to see what we can do.

Hello Ulf,

Was the URL address I emailed you of any help? It really explains thoroughly the components of the PostNet code.

Hi Ed.

The documentation seems to be fine.
